Every once in a while I check my inbox and find a question sent in from a reader. I thought it would be helpful to publish all of the questions and answers for your benefit. If you have a question that you're itching to ask, go ahead and send it to wake-boarding [at] barbdwyer [dot] com and I'll try my hardest to get you an answer.

Q. Can you wakeboard behind an inboard/outboard motor without a tower? This would seem incredibly dangerous to me, what do you say? My son is very interested in taking up the sport, and has a friend with a wakeboard boat and tower, but wants us to pull him with our boat sometimes. However, we do not have a tower. We have an 18 ft. bayliner, inboard/outboard. I need to know what you think. Thanks.

A. Yeah, that's not a problem. I learned how to wakeboard behind an I/O Four Winns. You're far enough back there when you're wakeboarding (typically 50 or more feet) that the propeller isn't going to pose a danger (just as it doesn't pose a danger for water skiing).

Wake surfing is another matter entirely. You should never wake surf behind an I/O or Outboard because you need to be within 5-10 feet of the back of the boat.

That's all we have for now, be sure to send in your own questions and I'll answer them here. You should also try our forums for specific questions that you have.
